MASAVEU COLLECTIONS: TEXTILE ART

FMCMP MADRID CENTRE
07 OCTOBER, 2026 – 18 JULY, 2027

Co-curated by Antonio Sama and Patricia Molins, this exhibition features an impressive selection of more than eighty textile pieces made between the fifteenth century and the present day that attest to over a century of collecting activity and two centuries of the Masaveu family’s connection with the world of fabrics. All of these works are from the Masaveu collections, which include the Masaveu Collection (owned by Corporación Masaveu), the foundation’s art collection (FMCMP Collection) and the personal collection of the foundation’s chairman, Fernando Masaveu.

The show is structured in two clearly differentiated sections, one dedicated to antique pieces and another for contemporary creations. As we move through it, we will be able to admire the work of artists like Sonia Delaunay, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Sheila Hicks, Joan Mirò, Josep Grau-Garriga, Aurèlia Muñoz, Sonia Navarro, Teresa Lanceta and Dolors Oromí, among others. The perfect conclusion to both sections is provided by Josep Grau-Garriga’s 1978 piece titled Homenaje a Frederic Mompou [Tribute to Frederic Mompou], which eloquently expresses the Masaveu family’s passion for textile art while also recalling their history of artistic and musical patronage, and more specifically that of Pedro Masaveu Masaveu, a close friend and supporter of Mompou.
Instead of following a conventional chronological narrative, the works are presented in a thoughtful exhibition design consisting of several sections that aim to facilitate interaction and confrontation between the styles, concepts or media used by different artists. This show represents a unique opportunity to discover, for the first time in Madrid, the evolution of textile art from the 1400s to today thanks to the collecting activity of a remarkable family.
