Published on the occasion of the reopening of the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson in Madrid on 5 October 2021 following its temporary closure as a result of the health emergency triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic, this book presents part of the new acquisitions made by the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Collection, whose constantly growing holdings are focused in particular on contemporary art. The group of works consists specifically of nineteenth-century paintings acquired in 2020 and 2021 with the main purpose of enhancing the representation of artists from that century in the Masaveu Collection and that of the Foundation.
Also complements the catalogue of the exhibition Masaveu Collection. Spanish Nineteenth-Century Painting. From Goya to Modernism on view at the Foundation’s Madrid headquarters from October 2019 to July 2022. These eleven works have been incorporated into the show to enrich its argument and help publicise and explain the history of Spanish nineteenth-century painting.
