The María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation acquired this photography by Miguel Rio Branco, one of the most renowned Brazilian artists of the last few decades, at the 2011 International Contemporary Art Fair (ARCO) in Madrid. The work was part of the “Amarrando piedras” (“Tying Stones”) exhibition, presented at an exposition organised in 2008 at a gallery in Madrid, with a series of images in Cibachrome that complete their interdisciplinary perspective, which usually alternates painting and photography, drawing and collage, music and poetry, as essential crossroads for seeking understanding and expression of oneself, in relation to the world.

Photographs, installations, paintings and videos are part of the extensive work of Rio Branco, which has a great connection with the skin as the surface that connects the human being, in dialogues between the inside and outside of things, de-contextualising objects or analysing natural and urban human landscapes. This series is a way of discussing his own life through symbolic images, building situations that can arise in reality but that the artist renews with his unique poetry, playing with the gravity of stones and developing compositions with an organic or micro-cellular appearance. Intriguing, immersed in an artificial colour on the limits of reality, with a broad symbolic meaning.
