Although he was born in the Canary Islands, Rio Branco is one of the most famous artists in Brazil, where he lives and works.As a multidisciplinary artist, as from the São Paulo Biennial 1983 he began making spatial installations combining photos and music.His work is closely connected to the skin, as the surface that connects the human being with this world through pleasure and pain and exterior-interior dialogues.Painter and photographer, a great artist, film enthusiast, music and poetry lover, he is a multidisciplinary artist who seeks understanding and self-expression.Among others, he has received the Prix du Livre Photo (Arles, 1997), Best Photography Director of the Festival of Brasilia (1988), Best Video of the Film Festival of Maranhao (1986), the Kodak Prize (1982) and the Special Prize of the Jury and the International Critics of the XI International Short Film Festival of Lille (1982).
