Paisaje belga

TECHNICAL DATA

Author: Agustín Riancho (Entrambasmestas, Cantabria, 1841 – Ontaneda, Cantabria, 1929)
Title: Paisaje belga (Belgian Landscape)
Year: 1875
Technique: oil on canvas
Size: 45 x 67 cm

Just like the other two works by Riancho in the collection, this painting is representative of the artist’s mature period in Belgium, when he was in contact with the modernising landscape trends influenced by the French realistic painters. All three works depict similar motifs: a village on the banks of a river with several waterborne vessels, and trees dominating the compositions. He depicts several small figures, with average canon of proportion and somewhat static, as was common in his artistic output.

This work was acquired in the Galería Jorge Juan in Madrid in 2018.
