Io sono un pazzo che legge (I am a crazy person who reads) is, according to its author, “a manifesto against racism”. Made with mixed technique and with his usual language, the canvas is populated by different characters that interact. Drawings in black and highlights on a white background are superimposed on different geometric shapes in bright colors, which give dynamism to the composition. Some of the drawn faces come from comics or cinema and others have been extracted from his personal universe. On the painting are also written, from top to bottom, several phrases, linked to the world of comics or current reality and reflecting the communicative purpose of all Pinya’s work: “Hands up”, “Don’t shoot”, “Bella Khaleesi”, “Stop bombs” and “Io sono un pazzo che legge”, the latter, which gives the work its title, taken from the song Cara Italia by the Italian singer-songwriter Ghali.

Acquired at the Dutch gallery Art 3035 during the fifth edition of the URVANITY Contemporary Art Fair (Madrid, May 27-30, 2021), it reflects the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation’s interest in urban art.
