CATALOGUE RAISONNÉ OF THE ARTISTIC WORK OF JAVIER DEL RÍO (1929 – 2007)

The Catalogue Raisonné of the Work of Javier del Río (Gijón, 1952-2004) is part of a joint initiative by the City Council of Gijón and the artist’s heirs, in the form of an exhibition and editorial project, as an important contribution to the dissemination and knowledge of his work.

The María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation, heir to a valuable cultural and artistic legacy of which it is a living testimony, is responsible for the creation and editing of this Catalogue Raisonné, which includes the academic, systematic and comprehensive research and study work, undertaken thanks to a Scholarship, created by the Foundation to study his complete artistic work, under the Scientific Direction of Doctor María Soledad Álvarez, Tenured Professor of the Department of Art History and Musicology at the University of Oviedo.

This Catalogue, which is the result of two years of research and work, recovers and makes it possible to disseminate and study the work of this brilliant artist, based on respect, and for the benefit of civil society, which has the right to enjoy, and the duty to preserve, the heritage treasures left over the centuries by history and human creation, with dedication and commitment.

The anthological exhibition, LA BÚSQUEDA DE UN SUEÑO. (IN PURSUIT OF A DREAM) Javier del Río (1952-2004), organised by the Municipal Foundation of Culture, Education and Popular University of the City Council of Gijón and commissioned by Ángel Antonio Rodríguez, takes place in parallel to the presentation of this Catalogue and is hosted simultaneously at the Antiguo Instituto Cultural Centre (4 July to 23 September 2012) and the Evaristo Valle Museum Foundation (8 July to 23 September 2012).
