Since 2007, his works have been characterised by using bas-relief in an innovative way, by scratching the surface of walls and revealing the “layers” comprising reality. This also holds true in the pieces in this series, which somehow mix sculptural and chalcographic procedures, as they have been made on different acid-engraved metal panels (a destructive technique) which are then assembled, juxtaposing and superimposing themselves on one another. With his characteristic large “scratches on the surface” that unite different iconic urban elements, VHILS reflects on identity and the saturated environments in today’s life in urban society.

These four pieces were acquired at the Goldman Global Arts Gallery (Miami) in 2019.
