La Sagrada Familia con San Juan Bautista niño
. Author: Escalante, Juan Antonio de Frías (16301670).

This exhibition offered to the visitor a sensitive experience and an exploration of some questions about painting and visual arts through the motifs of veil and curtain.

“Not knowing what is concealed behind a draped piece of fabric and wanting to see beyond stirs a desire in us which art has addressed with the depiction of drapery, veils and curtains. When fabrics are drawn aside, they direct our attention to what is revealed in a specific way. Yet showing goes hand in hand with covering and concealment: in a picture with veils and curtains we are never able to see everything. It is precisely this ambivalence between unveiling and veiling which makes these works so enchanting. The possible revelation of something hidden creates a sense of expectation in the artwork, shows the haptic relation between visual arts and perception and urges the viewer to look at what is behind the drapery, the veils and the curtains”.

From Stiftung Museum Kunstpalat, the Art Piece “Holy family with the infant Saint John The Baptist” by Juan Antonio de Frías Escalante is among the paintings more essential for the development of this Project of Stiftung Museum Kunstpalast and the creation of a successful exhibition of the highest quality.
