COLLABORATION
SPANISH YOUNG MUSIC TALENTS

Cultural Office of the Spanish Embassy in Washington, D.C.
2023

The Spanish Young Music Talents (SYMT) was created in 2021 as part of the Music from Spain programme of the Cultural Office of the Spanish Embassy in Washington D.C. in line with the Office’s mission to promote Spanish artists and creators, and aimed at supporting the future careers of our young musicians. Designed to foster and encourage the internationalisation of these artists in collaboration with universities and festivals in the United States, SYMT provides these young talents with an experience abroad. The programme is focused on three areas: classical music, jazz and chamber music.

SYMT is supported by Juventudes Musicales de España and the participants, all young musicians under the age of 30, are selected from the winners of the different categories of all the editions of the regular contest organised by this institution. The project therefore brings together a pool of Spain’s finest up-and-coming musicians for US universities and festivals to choose from. However, the purpose of this initiative goes much further than simply offering a concert in the United States since the participation in the programme involves the organisation of a concert or recital and a range of training activities at the host universities, such as masterclasses, talks and contact with local musicians.

Thanks to significant support provided by the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson, the 2023 programme organised by the Cultural Office features more than double the number of concerts organised last year and offers the guest musicians a new opportunity: to give a concert at the Former Residence of the Ambassador of Spain in Washington D.C. as part of their trip to the United States.
