HERITAGE RESTORATION AND CONSERVATION
TAPESTRIES IN THE FMCMP COLLECTION

ROYAL TAPESTRY FACTORY, MADRID
2021–2022

The Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson owns five Flemish and Belgian tapestries that have recently been restored by the Royal Tapestry Factory in Madrid. The five tapestries represent different scenes, motifs and allegories. Dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, they clearly illustrate the importance of tapestry making in Europe at the time. The restoration works have returned the tapestries to their former glory, once again revealing the exquisite quality of their production.

The Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson commissioned the Royal Tapestry Factory in Madrid to carry out the restoration works, which began in 2021. The factory is a leading institution in Europe for textile production, research and conservation, as the results of these newly restored tapestries clearly show.

This intervention forms part of a broader conservation and restoration programme launched by the Foundation in 2006.
