NAVA, Jorge

(Gijón, 1980)

The painting of this tenacious Gijón artist glances at Turner, Nolde and Goya, maintaining his interest in emotional landscapes that blend the classicism and avant-garde of northern Europe through the grotesque, absurdity and violence as a denouncement. A nonconformist author who also takes photographs of everyday life, at a procedural pace, approaching the contemporary uniqueness of Nan Goldin or the complex suggestion of the veteran William Eggleston, keeping his faith in working on his own and directly, without intermediaries, with catharsis as a guide and goal. In 2007, Jorge Nava won the Young Asturias Award and in 2009, the Noreña Painting Prize (Asturias). Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson gave him a grant in 2007 to participate in the PhotoMiami fair.
