CÁMARA SANTA

IMPROVEMENT OF ACCESS TO THE CÁMARA SANTA OF THE CATHEDRAL OF OVIEDO

The dim lighting of the room and the deep wear of the stairs made their use unsafe. For this reason we undertake the construction of a simple staircase with temporary character of noble wood as a light carpet that covers and protects the steps. This piece of furniture not only respects the current status of the staircase while preserving the integrity of its heritage value, but also allows for the resolution of essential functional issues in accessibility demands such as security by securing the steps and providing handrails and handrails.

In the project drafted the lining separates 20 cm. of the walls of the enclosure so that both the edges and the mouths of the steps that are covered can be appreciated, as well as the perimeter edges of the wide landing areas. Due to the expected influx of visitors, functional aspects such as circulations have been taken care of, which are ordered by the addition of a central breastplate, of the same wood, which separates the up and down flows and also serves as a support for railings and luminaires that bathe the steps light. The metallic elements, for support of central and lateral handrails, are executed in Corten steel sheet, oxidized and embetunada, similar to other similar treatments already executed within the Cathedral of Oviedo under the Master Plan.

The works made conform to the general criteria established in the Master Plan of the Cathedral of Oviedo with Subordination of the new intervention to the space that welcomes it, adapting it to the historical container and not the other way around.
