The sensibility towards the world and peoples harboured in García Rodero’s photographs are startlingly powerful yet avoid artifice. The images are as potent as they are real, the outcome of a passion for life and people, cultures and landscapes. García Rodero was the first Spaniard to work with the Magnum photojournalism agency, and in 1996 she was awarded the National Photography Prize. In 2005, she earned the Gold Medal of Merit for Fine Arts and the Culture Prize of the Community of Madrid, and in 2011 she won the Alcobendas International Photography Prize. She has also won World Press Photo in 1993, the Villa de Madrid Kaulak Photography Prize in 1995 and the FotoGranPrix of Barcelona in 1997, among other accolades.
