Work from the Masaveu Collection loaned for the exhibition: Virgin and Child with Musical Angels, circa 1425. Artist: Miquel Alcañiz (documented in Valencia, Barcelona and Mallorca, 1408–1447). Owner: Masaveu Collection.

Organised by the Museo Nacional del Prado and Fundación BBVA, the exhibition In the Italian Manner. Spain and the Mediterranean Gothic (1320–1420) aims to show how, even before the Renaissance, Italy led an artistic transformation that had a significant impact on the kingdoms of Spain, and how Spanish creativity in turn influenced Italian artists, a two-way street that defies the conventional centre/periphery dichotomy in art.

The show features over one hundred works in a variety of media (paintings, sculptures, precious metalwork, illuminated manuscripts, drawings, embroidery, silks, etc.) from Spanish and foreign collections. It includes important pieces by Italian masters like Ambrogio Lorenzetti and Gherardo Starnina as well as artists from the Iberian Peninsula such as Ferrer and Arnau Bassa and Miquel Alcañiz, author of the panel on loan from the Masaveu Collection, which is displayed in relation to Starnina’s work.
