These well-known works from the “Mímesis” series are by the artistic duo made up of Barbara & Michael Leisgen and were acquired for the FMCMP Art Collection in 2016 at the International Contemporary Art Fair of Madrid (Arco) at the stand of the American Maus Contemporary-Beta Pictoris gallery from Birmingham, Alabama. The photographs are icons of European photography of the seventies and were first presented at the Neue Galerie of Aachen in 1974. The performances, the theses derived from Land-Art and the Leisgens’ conceptual commitment fashioned a work consisting of 20 images in which the silhouette of Barbara is shown in the centre of open landscapes, causing a rhythmic sequence through the movement of her arms, which are lined up with the mountains in the background of the scene. The gestures, the monochromatic contrasts of black and white and the scales project a subtle emotion that underlies the experimentation typical of Germanic Romanticism.
