Green Room

TECHNICAL DATA

Author: Xurxo Gómez-Chao (A Coruña, 1960)
Title: Green Room
Year: 2014
Technique: lambda photograph on dibond
Size: 20 x 15 cm
Serie: Hotel Earle
Edition: 2/8

This photograph is from the series called Hotel Earle and was acquired by the FMCMP Art Collection at the stand of the A Coruña Moret Art gallery at the ArtMadrid fair 2015. As in the rest of this series, Gómez-Chao again assumes beauty, as written by Tanizaki, that is, not as a substance in itself, but rather as a game of chiaroscuro produced by the juxtaposition of different substances; a “subtle play of modulations”, according to the words of the Japanese novelist. In that dance of visual illusions, the Galician artist superimposes images to generate overlapping planes and force the viewer to assume a dichotomy that registers a moment alien to time but child of a particular place, between chromatic contrast and formal harmony.
