COMMEMORATIVE CONCERT 117TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GIJON PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY

On April 2, 2025, coinciding exactly with the date of its foundation in 1908, theSociedad Filarmónica de Gijón commemorates its 117th anniversary with an extraordinary concert at the Teatro Jovellanos, thanks to the patronage of the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson, with whose support it reinforces its commitment to artistic excellence and the cultural life of Gijón.

The concert will feature performances by pianist Noelia Rodiles with the Cosmos Quartet, formed by Bernat Prat and Helena Satué, violins; Lara Fernández, viola; and Oriol Prat, cello.

Rodiles will initially perform the composition Two Lieder by Schubert by Franz Liszt (1811-1889). Cosmos Quartet will perform the string quartets by Thomas Adès (1972), Arcadiana, Op. 12, and by Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809), Quartet in D major, Op.71 n.o 2. Both will join in the final part to perform the quintet by Franz Schubert (1797- 1828) Quintet with piano in A major, D. 667, “The Trout”.

The Gijón Philharmonic Society, founded on April 2, 1908, aims to provide its members with the best music by the best performers, to promote chamber music, leaving aside genres such as opera and zarzuela, and to promote Spanish music, both in its performers and composers. The cultural work of this society is summarized, including this event, in 1697 concerts.
