The Masaveu collections include works on paper—drawings, collages and other media—by some of the most important artists of the twentieth century. Due to the conservation requirements of these delicate works, they are displayed in rotation within the context of the exhibition Masaveu Collection. Twentieth-Century Spanish Art: From Picasso to Barceló.
Having provided audiences with the opportunity to discover an initial selection of these works, featuring pieces by Pablo Picasso, Julio González, Salvador Dalí, Maruja Mallo and other artists, this second display shines a spotlight on the activity of artists who, like Esteban Vicente and José Guerrero, produced most of their work in the United States and explored the same themes that preoccupied American abstract expressionists.
Esteban Vicente occupies a prominent place in this selection in view of a broader interest in the work of this artist, whose large-format canvases have an equally significant presence in the room dedicated to Spanish artists active in New York. Luis Feito is included in this group due to his particular sensitivity to North American culture and landscapes, since Canada and the United States had a meaningful impact on his career and life.
