DOS AZULES

TECHNICAL DATA

Author: José Guerrero (Granada, 1914–Barcelona, 1991)
Title: Dos azules
Year: 1965
Technique: oil on canvas
Size: 66 x 51 cm

In 1965, the year he made this painting, José Guerrero returned to Spain after having lived in New York since 1949. Despite his distance from that city, his work in the abstract expressionist vein reached its apogee precisely at the time when the movement was falling apart. This work remains deeply connected to the tensions of his New York pieces and, as in them, black is a strong presence that vies with the other colours.

After a long peregrination that took it to Galería Juana Mordó in Madrid, Galerie Buchholz in Munich, Galerie Werkraum Godula Buchholz in Munich, Galería Juan Gris in Madrid and a private collection in Madrid, Dos azules was purchased by the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson at Subastas Segre, Madrid, on 26 October 2021 (Lot 371).
