(†) MR. PEDRO GONZÁLEZ ESTEBAN
BOARD SECRETARY OF THE MARÍA CRISTINA MASAVEU PETERSON FOUNDATION
Profile and legacy of Pedro González Esteban, by Evaristo Arce
“His whole life was an act of service and an example of determination and integrity. So was Pedro González Esteban: thorough, methodical, determined and analytical, categorical in his expressions, deep and sincere in his emotions. As he performed his profession in law, he always displayed these qualities with intelligence, clarity and extensive knowledge.
He was fully devoted to his family and he lived for them without reservation or limitation. Nothing gave him greater satisfaction than loving and supporting them.
He returned the trust of his colleagues and friends with the same devotion, generosity and affection. That is why he was loved and respected by all and his memory will live on as an ethical and moral role model. He had strong values and firm religious beliefs and he followed that code of conduct in all of his areas of activity. He lived and died, accepting his private and outside duties and obligations with composure, Christian resignation and hope.
He thoroughly enjoyed conversation and social gatherings, especially appreciating good humour. He valued work well done, serious personalities, creativity as an expression of talent and culture and, essentially, all forms of friendship and companionship.
He called both Ávila and Asturias home, and was equally proud of both cities.
His wife, Chiti, was from Oviedo, and he regarded Oviedo as much more than just his place of residence: this host city became his home and his world. He was a man of honour, a good man and a man of his word and, thanks to him, all those who shared his company were happier, more open-spirited and better people.
Pedro González Esteban (Gutierre Muñoz, 20 July 1933 – Oviedo, 10 April 2009) was married to María del Carmen Menéndez González and they had four children -Carmen, Pedro, Teresa and Nacho- and four grandchildren -Miguel, Pablo, Cecilia and Cristina-. He was a lawyer, a professor of Civil Law at the University of Oviedo and from 1965 he was responsible for the Legal Department at the Masaveu Group. He was also the Board Secretary of the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation since its creation in 2006.
