Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson has published La cultura visual del siglo XXI y sus ecos en Asturias, a work in which Ángel Antonio Rodríguez Martín analyses the transformations that contemporary art has experienced in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries and their repercussions in Spain and Asturias.

Based on the author’s doctoral thesis, the publication is a critical survey of the principal dynamics that have shaped the recent art scene, examining international aesthetic trends and their local variants. The author, adopting a perspective that connects the global and local levels, examines the tendencies, debates and changes that have defined the art circuit over the last several decades.

The book is based on a broad conception of visual culture and extensive research, including a study of over one hundred different artists. Among other things, it discusses the evolution of artistic practices, the transformation of cultural institutions, and the relationship between cultural initiatives and their impact on local communities.

The book launch will take place at 7 pm on 11 June 2026 in the “Rector Alas” lecture hall in the Historic Building of the Universidad de Oviedo. Participants in the event will include the author, his PhD supervisor Ana María García Fernández, and Ana Martínez, Project Coordinator at Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson.
