Curated by Amaya Alzaga, an expert in Raimundo de Madrazo, this exhibition explores the life and work of the painter. A member of a renowned family of artists, Raimundo de Madrazo trained with his father Federico and his grandfather José. In 1862 he moved to Paris, where he would live most of his life and become one of the leading painters of the Parisian“grand monde”, earning great acclaim for his portraits.
The project is conceived as the first major monographic exhibition dedicated to this artist and seeks to shed light not only on his life and work but on the art market, the history of collecting and society in modern Europe. The painter’s presence in the United States and the role of his American patrons also occupy a central space in this exhibition and most notably, naturally, in the second venue, the Meadows Museum in Dallas, to which our works will also travel in 2026.
