Table piece Y – 20 “Circus”
Author: Sir Anthony Caro (New Malden, Surrey, Reino Unido 1924 – Londres, 2013)
Title: Table piece Y – 20 “Circus”
Technique: steel and rusted steel sheeting
Size: 72,5 x 137 x 63,5 cm
Anthony Caro began to make his famous table pieces in 1966, launching a series that extended over many years and includes around 400 works. They are generally small abstract sculptures which are built in relation to the horizontal plane of a table and proportional to the usual size of it. As in this work, the artist tends to use soldered steel plates and pieces with which he explores the tensions that emerge among the different parts. The oxidation of the material also serves as a visual connector among the different parts comprising the piece.
This work was acquired at an auction at Christie’s in London on 20 November 2018 (lot 130).
