ANGULO BIELSA, Jesús

(20th century)

No biographical information is available about this enigmatic photographer, who developed his scarce but rotund work in the early years of the Spanish Civil War. It took many years to identify the few photographs that have been kept, endowed with an avant-garde aesthetic that fed on the resources derived from painting and collage practised in European art since the twenties, experiments in black and white linked to surrealism, new objectivity, futurism and machinism, some of the more or less visible registers in his small legacy. His images have recently been presented at auctions and galleries in collective exhibitions as Avant-garde photography in Spain 1924-1939 (Guillermo de Osma, Madrid, 2014), among others.
