The ill-fated Chema Alvargonzalez died in Berlin in 2009, where he had started the Glogauair project in 2005, a Berlin residence for artists, nonprofit, combining housing and workshops in the district of Kreuzberg. A chronicler of uninhabited spaces, historical memory or critique of contemporary society, his photographs captured apparently fantastic cities full of visual cues with a committed and engaging backdrop. In 1997, the photographer received the Award for the Promotion of the Arts of Münster and, earlier, First Prize at the 39th Salon de Montrouge, France (1994).
