The María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation has recently acquired several vintage photographs dating from the 1930s and 1940s, signed by deceased Spanish artists such as Jesús Angulo Bielsa. His work, using cutting-edge aesthetics that collected ideas from painting practised in Europe, is combined with experimentations linked to surrealism, new objectivity, futurism and machinism – some of the records found in his small legacy.

In recent years, some collective expositions such as “Fotografía de vanguardia en España 1924-1939” (“Avant-garde Photography in Spain 1924-1939”) (Guillermo de Osma Gallery, Madrid, 2014) analysed the inheritance of these generations of artists. The introduction of modern photography in Spanish society in those decades produced variants and different styles, developing a broad spectrum of thought and aesthetic variations. In this work, the diagonals of the pavement are combined with their own shadows, voluntarily cutting the image of passers-by as part of a constructive resource composition, within the limits of formal abstraction and dominant pictorialism.
